About This Blog

I started blogging in 2005 as a way to communicate with family and friends, particularly as I had a baby (my kindergartener, now) and everyone wanted pics. This kind of progressed into a lazy mommy blog. As my boys grew older, I grew more wary about having their pics on the internet and took them down. That blog grew ever more neglected, so I abandoned it and moved here. But I lacked focus.

But then in May 2009 I began learning hand embroidery, and between my love for hand embroidery, food, photography, and crafts, I finally found focus for this blog. I hope you enjoy visiting, and that you come back often. I try to update a few times a week, though this of course depends on the time I can devote to this blog – between being a stay-at-home mom to 2 boys, telecommuting to my part-time job, and being a percussionist in a community band, life is full. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

In addition to featuring hand embroidery, food, and crafts (I just discovered knitting), On Awesome Avenue is also home to Vintage Cool.

Oh, and the name…why On Awesome Avenue? In my county, I often pass by a road called Awesome Avenue. Always thought “what a cool name for a street!”. So when it came time to name this blog, I came back to that street name. And while I don’t physically live in Awesome Avenue, I think I live my life like I’m on Awesome Avenue. I’m happy and enjoying what life has to offer, and that, to me, is truly living on Awesome Avenue.

  1. Hi Emily,
I somehow got to your post via twitter. As you do a lot of detail work, would you be interested in being an evaluator for our new magnification product? Cross-stitchers have been very receptive in general, and I would be happy to put our product together for you at no charge in exchange for your feedback.

Please check out the web site (www.craftoptics.com) when you get a chance and let me know if you have any interest.

    Thanks for your time!

    Best regards,
